How to interpret the colored cells

With the exception of the cells for the values of the variables “population” and “population density”, all cells containing values are colored. The coloring indicates how the respective municipality is positioned in relation to other municipalities with regard to the specific variable. The colorings cover ten grades from white, yellow, orange to red and dark red. Each grade represents one tenth (decile) of the municipalities. The lighter (darker) the colour the higher (lower) the rank. More precisely, the lightest color (white), represents the highest decile, the darkest colour (dark red) the lowest decile.

The definition of a high or low rank depends on the specific variable. The following table explains the relation for each variable.

Population change

Positive growth                        ----------------›                     strong decline

Share of 65+

Low share                                  ----------------›                     high share

Av. taxable income

High income                              ----------------›                     low income

Fiscal strength

High index                                 ----------------›                     low index

Total waste/inhabitant

Low amount                             ----------------›                     high amount

Recycling ratio

High ratio                                  ----------------›                    low ratio

Emissions/inhabitant

Low emissions                          ----------------›                    high emissions

Share of renewable energy

High share                                ----------------›                    low share
